Long time no see.
Well, I've managed to be ill twice. Produce the English Group's School Newspaper - absolutely lovely! and just be plain busy. Also we've had a bunch of teacher meetings, and of course the report cards.
Today was one of those days. Not really bad, but not a smashing hit, either. Still, the day goes by quickly with moments that you enjoy (and some that you can't stand). Let's try and see what the main points were:
4th grade second hour was a huge success. The book taught the words 'market', 'how much?' and such. So after going over these, I had them copy it into their notebooks from the board and then work in pairs or trios dramatising their own market: decide what to sell at the market, how much it costs, if you're going to buy it, if so - accept gracefully. Last ten minutes of class I made way for class productions... Two kids refused to act but they had participated in it all.
I had planned on testing two third grade classes today only to be told by one of the classes that their homeroom teacher was postponing the English test for tomorrow - so they wouldn't have two in the same day. Good to know! Well, I told them, spur of the moment that they were very lucky - we would practice for the test instead. But they were too noisy and disorganized... so I had to put a stop to that and tell them to just open their workbooks instead. Plain oral learning isn't enough.
Such weather!
